We got to try Hattie B's for the first time last Saturday! We came for dinner about 30 minutes after opening, and there was already a line out the back door. Be sure to arrive early for parking, there aren't a lot of spots available in their lot and you may have a ways to walk! The line took about 15 minutes to get through, and once we placed our order, it took about another 25 minutes to get our food. At first, a waitress put down a sandwich on our table about 2 minutes after sitting down, but before I could tell her that it wasn't ours, she didn't say anything and quickly walked away, clearly busy! We didn't want to eat someone else's meal so it sat there for a good 20 minutes before someone else came by to update us on our order, and take back the incorrect meal. Everything was delicious! My kids ate everything up and our friend even said, "Wow, this chicken is even better than Chick-fil-A!" My 5 year old said the chicken was better than she thought, which is big coming from a picky eater! I got the medium level of heat and it's not super spicy but does have a kick to it! Both the fries and the mac and cheese have little kicks to them as well. They had live music that night which is so fun but was pretty loud so be prepared for that. I was really happy with the prices! For me and my 2 kids the total was only $20! That's amazing for this area of Austin. Overall it was a good time!

I had always wanted to try this place, so we drove over to grab dinner. I found it hilarious that the folks working there had NO clue it used to be Maria's . I even told the guy working there, "You have a portrait of he on the wall outside. He still had ZERO clue. The service was top notch. The guy working the register was very patient and professional as we all placed our orders. I opened for waffles and chicken. The waffles were on point. I love the sweetness of them. They were crispy and delicious. We also got the loaded fries with extra chicken. I am not a fan of coleslaw, but it helped with the heat level of chicken. I also ordered a chicken sandwich and did get to choose my heat level. It was fantastic. f you're craving hot chicken in Austin, Hattie B's on Lamar is an absolute must. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with friendly Southern hospitality and the delicious smell of crispy fried goodness. The chicken is perfectly cooked—juicy on the inside with just the right amount of crunch. Their heat levels range from "Southern" (no heat) to "Shut the Cluck Up" (insanely spicy), so there's something for everyone. I went with "Hot" and it had the perfect kick without overwhelming the flavor. Don’t skip the sides—the pimento mac & cheese and collard greens are next level. And if you have room, the banana pudding is the ideal sweet finish. The atmosphere is fun and casual, with a cool South Austin vibe. Service was quick, even when the line looked long. You can tell the team takes pride in what they do. Highly recommend this spot for locals and visitors alike. Hattie B’s lives up to the hype!

my #1 chicken place was tumble 22 but i LOVE hattie b’s tenders theyre definitely the best item on the menu. they are huge, juicy & very flavorful. definitely recommend the hot & medium flavors! they have a 3 tender combo but id say even the 2 tender combo is more than enough to get full since you get the jumbo tenders and a lot of fries (which are my favorite fries compared to any other food chain)

First time here, and I enjoyed it immensely! Some of the juiciest, tastiest chicken I've had. The HOT was hot, but not overpowering, and the grits, recommended by the cashier were delicious! The mac n cheese with chicken and fries is something else, and the tenders looked great! Not sure if there's anything "bad" on the menu, but I'm willing to taste it all to find out!

Having been a fan of the Hattie B’s in Nashville, I was super excited to see this come to Austin. We finally visited for the first time with my son being very hungry. Our cashier was wonderfully informative and pulled out little toys to show my son what a leg quarter and breast with wing looked like. After ordering, we sat down in a fairly empty room and waited for our food which took way longer than it should’ve as other people who ordered after us were receiving their orders. When we finally got our order, I found my chicken on the dry side with the batter softer than I’d prefer. The fries were a redeeming factor though. My son ravenously enjoyed his leg quarter after waiting so long for his food. A combination of bad service, less than stellar food, and distance from our house will keep us from coming back.

Hattie B's on South Lamar. Felt like the chicken might have been playing hide-and-seek with the flavor during my visit, but let's talk about the MVPs on the sidelines. Their mac and cheese? Forget about it. Creamy, dreamy, a cheesy symphony that deserves its own standing ovation. And those "Dirty Bird Fries" – crinkle-cut perfection buried under pimento mac, tender chicken bites, and a generous drizzle of comeback sauce. It's a glorious, messy masterpiece. The staff were absolute all-stars, and the vibe of the place is undeniably cool. So, while the chicken needs to find its spice, the sides are a full-on celebration. Three and a half stars. Come for the party on the plate (especially the cheesy parts), stay for the stellar service and atmosphere.

Very good chicken sandwiches and strips. I had the sweet and smoky flavored fried chicken sandwich with pimento cheese and slaw. Red skinned potato salad. The sandwich was huge, and the chicken was perfectly cooked! The slaw and pimento cheese added another tasty level to the sandwich. The potato salad was good, but I've had better. I'll definitely go back here and try a spicy sandwich or strips next time!

I had a great first experience at Hattie B’s! Some friends were visiting me, and since they had already tried the food truck version, we decided to check out the restaurant together. The chicken was absolutely delicious—perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside—but it was much spicier than I expected. I probably should have gone with the mild, as the heat level was intense! The mac and cheese was also really good, creamy and well-seasoned, making it a great complement to the spicy chicken. The tenders were especially impressive—juicy, flavorful, and cooked just right. The overall experience was fantastic, from the food to the lively atmosphere. I’d definitely love to come back and try more of their menu!

Located at 2529 S Lamar Blvd in Austin, TX, Hattie B's Hot Chicken is a flavorful homage to Nashville's famed hot chicken scene, now making waves in the Texas culinary landscape. Known for its vibrant energy and signature Southern hospitality, Hattie B's welcomes guests with the enticing aroma of perfectly fried chicken that keeps loyal patrons and newcomers alike returning for more.

The highlight of a visit to Hattie B's is undoubtedly the chicken, which strikes a perfect balance between juicy tenderness and a satisfying crunch. With a range of heat levels from the mild "Southern" to the fiery "Shut the Cluck Up," diners can select a spice level that suits their palate. My personal recommendation is to try the "Hot" option—it delivers a delightful kick without overshadowing the chicken’s rich flavor profile.

For those who love to indulge, don’t miss the sides that steal the spotlight just as much as the signature chicken. The pimento mac & cheese and collard greens are exceptional, with the former being creamy and rich, while the latter adds a touch of Southern soul to your meal. The restaurant’s loaded fries, topped with crispy chicken, are also a must-try, offering a satisfying crunch with each bite.

In addition to the delicious fare, Hattie B's fosters a fun and casual atmosphere that feels right at home in South Austin. Live music can often be heard, enhancing the dining experience while you settle in with family or friends. The service is generally commendable, characterized by friendly staff who are eager to guide you through your meal choices. While there are occasional wait times during peak hours, the quality of the food makes the wait worthwhile.

What truly impressed me was the array of options available for kids—an important factor for families—ensuring there’s something for even the pickiest of eaters. On top of that, all the meal prices are surprisingly reasonable for the area, making it an inviting spot for both locals and out-of-towners.

All in all, whether you're a hot chicken aficionado or new to the dish, Hattie B's Hot Chicken in Austin - South Lamar promises a mouthwatering experience. You’ll leave with a satisfied palate and a desire to return for your next fix of spicy Southern comfort food.
